Nintendo finally confirmed the hardware specifications of their latest and most advanced game consoles, Nintendo Wii U.

Nintendo Wii U will be powered by processor from ‘the big blue’ IBM, the IBM PowerPC multi-core processor. But Nintendo has not mentioned the details of the number of cores and frequency speed. The amount of RAM memory is also not known.

Meanwhile, for Wii U graphics, Nintendo uses AMD’s Radeon graphics chip which uses the Radeon HD5000/6000 series and have the ability to play 1080p high definition video.

In the previous Wii series, Nintendo also uses AMD’s Radeon graphics chip that uses the code name “Hollywood”.

Both competitors of Nintendo Wii U, Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox 720 are also rumored to use AMD’s Radeon graphics chip.

Nintendo Wii U do not use hard disk media for storage, but using a SSD (Solid State Drive) to improve access speed, the capacity SSD Nintendo Wii U until now unknown.

As quoted from Fudzilla, Nintendo Wii U will be equipped with a DVD ROM optical drive. However, Nintendo Wii U optical drive can only recognize DVD Nintendo game alone, can not be used for other DVDs.

Nintendo Wii U is also equipped with an expansion slot, so users can use the SD card or other USB device as a media expansion. Not only that, the console is also equipped with features WiFi, 4 USB 2.0 port, AV-out port and HDMI port.

Nintendo says that almost all of the accessories on the Wii console can still be used in Nintendo Wii U console.
