RIM Officially Announces BlackBerry PlayBook
Finally, Research in Motion (RIM) introduced its new tablet in the BlackBerry Developer Conference event, San Francisco, USA. However BlackPad not selected as the name of their tablets. Then what?
Announced directly by RIM CEO Mike Lazardis, BlackBerry tablet was named PlayBook.
The device will be available in the U.S. early next year and will be marketed globally starting the second quarter of 2011, but RIM does not mention about the price.
The first appearance 7inch sized tablet with a thickness of 9.7mm is shown by Mike Lazaridis. Tablet complemented by a capacity HTML5 browser, a pair of HD cameras on the front and rear, as well as HDMI and USB ports.
PlayBook equipped with a 1GHz dual-core chip and has a built-in 1GB of RAM, and comes with a special edition of the BlackBerry software with the ability to play 1080p video and multitasking. Other features include WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and supports Adobe Flash 10.1.
Lazaridis states that PlayBook is the work supporting tablet and will match with the architecture servers in different companies. In the press release RIM states, next month they will start cooperation with developers and choose corporate customers to test and perfecting.
Early version of PlayBook does not have 3G or 4G cellular antenna, so users are encouraged to connect the device with BlackBerry mobile phone via Bluetooth to activate a data connection when it does not get a WiFi connection. RIM also said in a press release that PlayBook will be available in 3G and 4G models.
